Statement
I adopt the statement of J. Michael Murphy and urge the election of our entire Dartmouth United slate.
The Association of Alumni should be a strong and independent communications channel between alumni and the Dartmouth Administration and Trustees. But current Executive Committee members haven’t been the vigorous, independent alumni advocates I hoped for.
I built my career optimizing communications among the diverse stakeholder groups that make up teaching hospitals. These academic communities have strong, independent, and often feuding constituencies (including doctors, researchers, teachers, and administrators). I taught these competing groups how to build trust, improve communication, and nurture shared initiatives so they could work together toward a shared mission.
Now I want to bring those skills to Dartmouth. The Trustees, Administration, and alumni clearly share a deep concern for the good of the College, but we’re seeing an equally clear lack of communication and shared problem-solving. I will help re-task the Executive Committee to bridge these gaps and insist on openness, fairness, and transparency.
